Eye - Is for I'm Sorry !

Eye - Is for I'm Sorry !

This is not my Round 5 submission.. And my Internet connection is broken, and I'm trying to do this all from a mobile phone.. But I feel I really do need to apologise to my Round 5 partner..

It went like this.. I missed round 5 sign-up because I was so busy trying to meet Xaviers challenge last week... Consequently I was a late entrant Alternative to the Get Pushed Group for round 5..

Eventually (Tuesday night) I was told I had been paired with this apparently ok average guy Malcom J Smith from Scotland.. Nice profile.. Family guy, great looking kids and also looks like he really enjoys the times he spends with them and gets away on holiday..

Hoping for an easier week than last.. I mailed...

"Hi Malcom

We have been paired in get pushed for round 5...!

I'll let you go first on the challenge... But I should warn you.. I'm in a bit of a bad mood tonight LOL..

So Go carefully! :-)"

Well I was actually in a filthy mood.. Not Malcoms fault... Really..

Ms-IV had just been knocked down in the street by the Manchester looters and was scared silly.. (and somehow was all my fault)... And I had just had a run in myself with two of the little Yobs, who without their fellow scumbags were a little more reluctant to show exactly how tough they were.. Another story.. but maybe the police should have followed the same tactics..?

But anyways... A short Time later (well actually probably the next morning) I get back from Malcolm

"Hi Graham,

Having looked through your stream, I must congratulate you on the quality of your work. You have mastered the square format producing clean, uncluttered images that leave the viewer in no doubt of the intended subject matter.

This leads me to my challenge.....

I would like you to continue with the square format but the image may be. Somewhat cluttered! Your challenge is to produce an image containing 26 individual items each depicting a letter of the alphabet.
Each item must be from a different source and physical form (ie not 26 flash cards).
The items are not to be arranged in order in neat lines but to be positioned around the frame in such a way that the viewer has to do a little work in identifying them.

I hope my fun little challenge goes towards lifting your bad mood.

Have fun,

Well Here I was, no sleep after the night before what with Police and Helicopters and Sirens and Yelling Yobs having kept me up all night... As Grumpy and as tired as hell.. And this total stranger was apparently challenging me to a total nightmare exactly like the week before... Why me? I thought.. Why is everyone picking on me lately...? I almost instantly replied telling him to get lost... But instead I thought I would be just as evil..

This guy had just challenged me to a bloody 26 photo treasure hunt "Alphabet Hide and Seek" Montage.. What could be more retributional to that.. than...

"House Number Sudoku" !

So I shunted back...

"Super Malcolm...

Truth is I'm afraid your 'fun' challenge has done very little to lift my bad mood.. Right now I'm thinking that I'm not sure who I feel more annoyed at.. You or those scumbag looters who kept me awake all last night..

But Ok... I have to go away and take 26 different pictures of objects beginning with each letter of the alphabet and arrange them into a jumbled square before Sunday.. Thanks.. I accept..

After last week I'd kinda been hoping for a simple challenge this week and was going to go easy on you, and to some extent... I will by asking you to take exactly 1 less picture than you have me.

Your challenge is to take only 25 equally sized square pictures of differently coloured house or building numbers numbers and arrange them pixel perfect in a 5 x 5 Square.. measuring 1000 x 1000 pixels

No number, eg "15" may be used twice in any of the pictures, and each row across and each column down should add up to exactly the same total..

That should keep you as busy as yours will me.. See you Sunday!"

Well my reasoning was...

1) He would first have to limber up with a little bit of intellectual mathematics..
2) Follow it up by running around town and streets trying to find the numbers for his grid.. and hoping he hadn't used any numbers larger than a building number that might be available (a suitable constraint on activity 1 I thought)
3) Finish off with a mass of precision cropping and montage assembly..

And that would teach him a damn good lesson for making a victim of me again.. and serve as a future warning to others too!

Then his reply

To be fair, my challenge only asks you to take a solitary picture with 26 items arranged around the frame - not 26 individual pictures but if you want to do it that way then go for it!

Time to get the calculator out and graciously accept your sudoku challenge,

Looking forward to Sunday."

WTF.. Oh Pooh... ! He asked me to ta

Normally, I try to post dissimilar images from the same shoot, picking the best of each outfit and/or lighting set-up. For this image, I'm breaking with that tradition because on this shoot I actually remembered, more frequently, to shoot in landscape orientation instead of portrait orientation like I do 80% of the time.

In this horizontal image, I'm taken by the light fall-off and composition drawing the eye to the main subject. Once again, since there are no lightbulbs in Photoshop, all of the "vignetting" and "lighting effects" are done on set through the lens. And it's one of my personal favorites...showing a "repeat" this go 'round.
